About Royal Run

Royal Run is an annual sports event that takes place in several Danish cities. The race was first held on May 21, 2018, in celebration of HM the King of Denmarks 50th birthday, and the Royal Family has participated in the Royal Run ever since.

This year HM The King will once again run with the Danes at Royal Run '24, and this year Royal Run will be held in Fredericia, Brønderslev, Aarhus, Kalundborg and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg. And as times before the Royal Run takes place in Pentecost weekend, on the 20th of May 2024.

Here the royals run at Royal Run 2024:

HM The King kicks off this year's celebration in Fredericia, while HRH The Crown Prince, for the first time in Royal Run history, ventures out to one of the host cities to participate in the run.

An opportunity for everybody

Royal Run is an opportunity for everybody to take part in this unique event with the royal family where running, walking and something in between is in focus. Hopefully this event will encourage people to be physically active on this day and in general.

Participants can choose to either walk or run the three distances: One mile (1.6 km), 5 km, and 10 km. The event is organized so that everyone can participate. Athletes or ambitious runners can compete and chase personal records. The rest of us can join the festive event at our own pace – and it is possible for whole families, elderly, and those with disabilities to participate and enjoy the celebration in the streets of the five host cities.

Behind the event

Royal Run is organized by The National Olympic Committee & Sports Confederation of Denmark, DGI and the Danish Athletic Federation as part of “Move for Life”, which is the shared vision to make Denmark the most active nation in the world. A vision which is supported by Nordea-Fonden and TrygFonden. Novo Nordisk Fonden is strategic partner and TV 2 is Royal Run’s media partner.
